A thermometer and a hydrometer are must have instruments. There is need to measure the temperature of the wort, at the various stages of brewing. The temperature of the yeast and the mash also need to be properly measured and recorded. The hydrometer is used in measuring the density of the liquid. It should be floated in the beer and the readings subsequently recorded. This will help to determine the amount of sugar, before and after fermentation.
