Information On Halal Meals Ready To Eat

By Christopher Thompson

Sometimes when you are out on maneuvers with your platoon, you may have come to see some of your soldier buddies eating a different kind of MRE. You probably noticed that the MRE that they eat are either marked as kosher or even halal. This of course has made you more curious if these types of meals are better than the ones you eat or just the same. Thus to find out more about what are kosher and halal meals ready to eat, then do read on in this article.

Halal food is a type of food that is especially prepared according to guidelines set by Muslim holy men or imams, and also those that are set forth in the Islamic Holy Book or the Koran. In terms of kosher foods, these are food prepared under guidelines of the Jewish holy leaders, or rabbis, and also by rules under the Jewish Holy Book the Torah.

Almost everyone in the world will be familiar with the term halal and the symbol associated with it. Quite a lot of items are considered halal or allowed when it has the symbol on it, as being opposed to something that is haram, which is forbidden. Lifestyle choices can also be encompassed under this classification, where these be hotels, tourist spots and fashion lines and clothing. In Muslim countries there are even such things as approved television shows.

With regards to kosher and things kosher, this is also gaining ground as well particularly in the United States. Kosher food is different from Muslim food in that it sometimes allows artificial ingredients and condiments like monosodium glutamate. Muslims however, will never allow it.

Quite a lot are still mistaken that halal and kosher can be interchanged, just because Islamic and Jewish traditions descended from one patriarchal source, which is Abraham. Nothing can be more a dangerous assumption, and one must learn not to commit the mistake when in countries in the Middle East.

One salient difference between the traditional preparation of slaughtered meat for Muslims and Jews are the prayers involved. For Muslims to make the meat acceptable plenty of prayers are made before the slaughter. For the Jews, all that needs to be done is if the preparation be made by a certified rabbi.

In kosher preparations alcohol is permissible in the ingredients. However, for Muslim foods, alcohol will always be haram. Thus do not expect to have a Muslim fruitcake anytime soon, definitely you will be able to find a kosher fruitcake. Interestingly fruits and vegetables are always allowed by Muslims but they can only be kosher for a Jew as long as no bugs or insects have touched them. Likewise grape and fruit products will always be kosher only if they are made by Jews.

In sum this article has shown the fundamental differences between these two types of food preparation. Thus hopefully next time that you see an MRE marked as such, you will not be wondering too much.
